V700 Woes. Any advice?

jessthespringerParticipant
Hi all,
settled down to do a little scanning a while ago only to discover I have a have a few issues.
Firstly, when trying to scan a positive I can’t see anything on the preview, nothing. Just white. If I try scanning a negative the preview is completely black. Documents are scanning without any issues.
Also the scanner itself is making a low kinda whoo, whoo, whoo noise that I can’t recall ever hearing before. And it’s also running slow. (the scanner is warming up message displaying for longer than normal.)
Just wondering if any of you have had any experience of this before, or could give me any advice?
Hope you’re all well by the way!

stcstcMembercouple of things to try
make sure the transport lock hasnt got knocked slitghly and is engaged a little
next, unplug and reseat the transperancy hood connector, i had this recently with my 750, it wasnt making a good connection, so after reconnecting worked well
texMemberJess, dare I suggest, have you removed the white cover from the top lid of your scanner? My scanner needs light from top & bottom in order to scan slides and negs. Documents need no top light.
davedunneParticipantAre you scanning without one of the included masks?
If so you need to be careful to not block the area close to the hinge end. Exposure is measured there.
EddieParticipantjessthespringerParticipantGuys,
thanks for the advice. I had a feeling it wasn’t software related, the whoo whoo whoo was making me think it was more sinister. Friggin bulb on the bottom bed is out. Just spoke to Epson support. £195 to get it fixed. I swear, I could actually cry. This could not have happened me a worse time!
Would any of you happen to have any contacts who could help me?
Cheers,
Sinead
stcstcMemberjessthespringerParticipanttexMemberSinead with that kind of price for repair surely the purchase of a new scanner would be a better investment. I saw the V700 for sale in Harvey Normans for €250.
Cheers
VincentstcstcMembertexMemberSteve I rang them to make sure it was the V700 and it is but the sales assistant told me there was a small scratch on the glass, hence the low price. I’m not sure how difficult it would be replace the glass or even if you would need to.
