M42 Lenses for a Canon 550D

    Hi all,

This is my first proper post here and I’m thinking of going the M42 route for the time being on the Canon 550D.

I’ve researched some lenses such as the Helios 44m & 44 2, Yashica 50mm plus the Olympus Zuiko range with the OM – EOS adapter.

As my budget is quite low I’m thinking that this is a good temporary solution until I can earn enough money and start buying some better lenses.

I’m wondering if anyone has gone this route and has had any good or bad experiences? I’m looking at purchasing through Ebay and I’m hoping that it won’t be a case of purchasing a damaged lens. Could anyone recommend any good Ebay stores?

Finally, I haven’t really found a good m42 macro lens. Nothing really stood out. Does anyone know of a macro lens with M42 fitting?

When I began researching these lenses I thought it was all too good to be true. Some of these lenses are of a good build and provide healthy apertures. I know you’re limited when it comes to functionality but I always shoot on manual so I don’t think I should have much of an issue. I’m also using ML so the added focus metre could assist while using these lenses.

    Thanks for reading.

I guess you’ve come across this site then already:

But there are used EF primes around for little money it seems if you look hard (€20-80)….
