Theres not a lot wrong with the conversion,
I reckon it’s the light that’s probably a bit flat,
Looking at the shot the sun appears to be directly overhead, and it looks like a cloudless sky,
It might be better to shoot this when the sun is lower ,morning/evening.
That way the shadows can be used to strengthen the composition,
If there were some clouds in the sky, it will add a bit more contrast to your shot,
Hope this helps,
Paul is probably right about the lighting alright but you could possibly improve it in PS. Not sure how you processed it – was it just a straight conversion to B&W or did you simply de-saturate it? Anyway, without seeing the original colour version, here are a few things that may help. I’m only using Elements 9 myself by the way.
1. Use the infrared option when converting it.
2. Light use of the Dodge and Burn tools on selected areas of highlights and shadows respectively.
3. Adjusting Levels or just boosting the contrast a little.
4 If you shot in RAW, you could boost the Blacks in Adobe Camera Raw .
No groundbreaking advice there :o but might help to some extent anyway.
