I wouldnt call my bluebell stuff from last year perfect, but i was happy with one of the shots. I shoot panoramic with an xpan and velvia which is great for the blue purple colours. I didnt need any filters. Get to where ever your shooting in the first week or you’ll find the flowers trampled on.theyre starting to appear in fields now but need a few weeks to become a carpet!

Hi Paul, Ektar is the most saturated colour negative film available so should be well suited for flowers. If you want more subdued colours then the Portra films or Fuji Reala will be better. Of course it will depend on the lighting available whenever you take your shots. If the weather is a bit dull or overcast, then I’d definitely go for the Ektar to get a bit more punch.

When shooting film the true colour of bluebells are often captured by the use of the 81a filter, but I have seen people claim that the 81b filter is best. Other people claim the use of a polariser filter works great. I guess it calls for experimentation using any or all of these filters and comparing the results.

    Thanks guys,

I’ve never got this one right, I bought a blue grad cokin filter some years back and tried it out but didn’t work so I’ll try a few of the tips here, I hope you have some Ektar in stock Peter, just checked my fridge and I’m out
