My Vanishing Ireland

Ah, finally back in the saddle per say and taking images again that arent part of some college assignment, well, not directly this time.
Anyway, heres the story. I read Vanishing Ireland from James Fannell a while back and it got me to thinking. Im from a fairly rural area of Ireland and I’ve notice (now that i thought about it) how old Irish rural homes and the people that used to live in them, have been disappearing from my area, through death or moving on to newer houses. So, got me to thinking, why not document it. I finally got my 5D MkII this week and thought this would be the best time to head and start the project. It also turns out I need a body of work by the end of next year for college based on a theme so, win win.
These are some of the images I came home with today. I used photoshop to change to b&w, no other editing was done (bar my name). No cropping or anything, since I started into film photography via college I’ve had to learn to frame first :)
I hope you enjoy and any feedback, as always, is appreciated.

Im hoping to make this into a larger project, spanning more of the country then my little back road :)

nice work! Really like the first and last. Last one takes pole position for me – it’s elegant in its simplicity. I get the idea behind the others, but they’re just not my cup of tea. All the best.

Thank you very much Allen. I wasnt actually going to use it when i got home and opened it up, but when i went back through my RAWs it really stood out so I decided I’d use it. It turned out to be one of my favorites from the day to. Amazing its only a mile from where I live and encompasses everything I wanted to say about the area :)
