Its hard to make grey interesting

On my way to dollymount with the dog on sunday morning and noticed that Poolbeg was covered in mist when a flock of geese flew by so I grabbed this shot. There were no colours to speak of with the mist and lack of clouds in the sky and the geese being Black and white so I converted it to B&W.

I kind of like this myself even though its predominantly grey. Makes me think of a competition where you have to submit your best grey shot. :) Is it possible to have a decent grey image ???

Anyway, opinions, critiques and comments as always most welcome.

I really like this – the contrast between foreground and background, nature and construct, make it for me. It’s not just visually appealing, it invites interpretation, too. Wish I’d taken it :)

I didn’t even notice it’s a b&w, I thought it was a colour image whit a LOT of gray in it. I really like this shot, the only thing is the geese are a little bit tightly bunched. May be next time you could ask them to space themselves a little better. :)

Super shot. Might even be better if the birds had slightly more space in front than behind.

    Hi Guys,

thanks for all the comments. Regarding the birds positoning, I know exactly what you mean. However I was stopped at traffic lights and I just grabbed the camera and took the shot out of the window so there was no way I could do anything about this unfortunately. I would not even be able to crop the image to centre them more without losing something I think.

Great shot Mark, even if the geese were tailgating at the traffic lights.

Mark thats a cracking shot., bags of atmosphere and shows how urban life impacts/interacts with the wildlife.
Might be worth trying a levels on this and use the black and white pickers to try and boost the two tones.
