canon 40d frames per second in av or tv
-
bnaughtonParticipant
my camera when set at av or tv fires at 1 frame per second even when shutter speed is at 1000 plus with fully charged batteries but when in sports mode its closer to the 6.5 that canon claims the shutter count is 34k
edg3ParticipantIm not sure what the question is, but try setting it to manual and using burst mode then. on AV and TV is varies because its semi automatic.
brendancullenParticipantHi – It should fire at 6.5 frames a second, in continous mode – in either AV or TV mode – assuming you have enough light.
I’m not sure i’ve ever heard anyone shooting continuous in AV mode – its more at home in manual or TV.eg – in low light & low ISO – in AV mode – you may get a reading of 1/2 sec for shutter speed – so your not going to get 6.5 half seconds shots in a second – if you know what i mean. The shutter has to stay open too long to let the correct amount of light in.
The shutter speed will also depend on the ISO and the minimum f/stop of the lens. A fully extended zoom lens at f/5.6 will be pretty useless in low light – hand held.So switch to TV mode – at a shutter speed of at least faster that 1/8 sec – and you will always get 6.5 frames a sec – even though the images may be dark/underexposed. In good light – you go all the way up to 1/4000 a sec. If they are under exposed – up the ISO – or use a flash.
Let me know how you get on.

paulParticipantAV, TV and Manual should all be able to shoot at 6.5 fps. I never had a problem with my 40D.
Make sure it is set to high-speed shooting, and not low-speed or single frame shooting. That’s Page 81 in your Canon 40D manual.
1 – Press the
button
2 – Select the drive mode (using the large back wheel). You should see a set of staggered frames, with the letter H beside it.
bnaughtonParticipantcheers all for the help
most times its set in tv mode at about 1000/sec for motorsports and iso 400
