nice image, your “Rising Moon” one on Flickr is better though. I would crop out the blown highlight of the moon on the left. What settings did you use?
Blut00ParticipantExposure 30s
Aperture f/3.5
Focal Length 10 mm
ISO Speed 640
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Color Space sRGB
Exposure Mode Manual
White Balance Manual (5100K I think!)
Focus Manual
Self Timer 2 s / Mirror upThe other pictures shot that night were on similar settings, I varied between 30seconds and bulb, but preferred 30s, controlling the exposure by changing the ISO (It was way too cold to be holding my phone as a timer in bulb mode)
Of course I used a tripod and IR shutter release.
If I was shooting again, I’d close the aperture a couple of stops, increase the ISO and Exposure just enough to expose properly without trailing the stars.bigalguitarpickerParticipantBlut00ParticipantThanks. I’m patiently waiting for another opportunity to shot this scene again. I’m keeping an eye on this site http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=78&month=1&year=2012&obj=moon&afl=-11&day=1″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
Also ‘Google Sky Maps’ on my Android is perfect for showing the moon (or sun) below the horizon to better anticipate it’s exact rising location.I also intend shooting RAW the next time, any other suggestions are welcome.
markclehaneParticipantNice shot alright but I’d agree with rasmith32 about cropping to delete that blown area.
Mark.Blut00ParticipantadamroryporterParticipantHave to say I like the photograph more with glow and moon left in. :) The joy of subjectiveness. :)
Blut00ParticipantThanks Adam,
I probably prefer the uncropped picture too, although I need a bit more practice with Photoshop to lift the blacks in the bottom-right corner without brightening the entire image.Blut00ParticipantOK, learned a few things about Photoshop this evening and I’m pleased with the brighter corner in the bottom right……Improves the image IMO
IsabellaParticipantwow, spot on really beautiful image. bringing out the wall adds a great sense of depth to an already superb shot
Blut00ParticipantOK, That’s it, final edit. I’ve discovered how to fix the barrel distortion, which required some cropping afterwards.
alanhunt99ParticipantBlut00Participantdamien.murphyParticipantLovely image, need to think a bit, and see which version I like more, as I quite liked the original :)
