Monitor moron needs help

    Hi Folks,

does anyone know anything about monitors. I am looking at possibly getting one as for the last number of years I do all my editing on a laptop and I am always disappointed when I print the photo myself as it never looks like it did on the screen.

I reckon if I hooked my laptop up to a monitor then what I see on screen would more likely be what comes out of the printer (or am I completely off the mark here ?)

I don’t want to break the bank and I am not looking for a huge screen either.

    Mark.

I bought a Dell 2209WA IPS monitor a while back and it’s really good. It’s a little old but I got it cheap as it was re-furbished but what I print now looks exactly as it does on the screen. I had other monitors and laptops before and they were all calibrated but I could never get the monitor to look like the print.

If you can get yourself one of the Dell IPS monitors you should be fine.

Cheers Ballyman. Can you tell me what should I be looking out for in a monitor. I have seen some Benq, LG, Samsung, Philips and Liyama models a
that would fit my budget of €170 max. What makes one better than the other. LED vs LCD ????

I have been told that LED is the way to go. If I go to a sop like DID what sort of questions should I be asking ?

I honestly don’t know. I knew I wanted an IPS monitor as it allowed you to view the photos from any angle and look the same on the screeen. I then went about trying to find one that suited my budget and read the reviews of each one. I have no idea which brand are better etc so all I can suggest is to try and source the best IPS panel you can afford through reading reviews etc. What I will say is that your budget might be a tad low for a proper IPS panel but if you go down the second hand/re-furbished route then you will probably get a good one for that price.
