Showcase your landscape photography

    Hi all,

I am the owner of a coffee shop and photography studio in Galway city centre. I have been thinking of ways to fill up some empty wall space in the coffee shop. Being a photographer, I thought samples of my photography would be the obvious choice, however I specialise in wedding and studio photography, mainly people, and not that suitable for what I’m looking for. I would like to have images of Galway landmarks displayed. Having no interest in landscape photography, I thought I would turn to you guys.
    Here’s what I’m offering:
    – Space to display your images in busy city centre coffee shop (Arabica Coffee Co franchise)
    – All images would be framed as to my liking to fit in with the shop’s decor, at your expense.
    – You decide the price of the framed image and a description and price will be displayed with the image.
    – You get all the money from the sale…if it sales.
    – So everybody wins, you get to display and sell your images, I get some wall decor in my coffee shop.

So here’s the deal. I’m looking for about 10 images for now and see how we get on… Galway City and County Landmarks.
Anyone who is interested, please post your images and once we have a few, I will choose the 10 that will make “The Wall”. Please give a brief description of your image.
I hope this works out, I think it could be a fun ongoing thing.

    Pascal.

Sounds fair enough, if you wanted to sell prints you would probably mount and frame
them anyway, so all he is offering is a space to display them (free of charge).

    Exactly, thanks Jenny.

And also, may I add, each photographer’s name and details will be displayed with each image.

    Do you want colour or B&W? I have a few B&W I think ,

I think this is quite common practice John. You’ll see this in many cafes/restaurants and hotels across the country. I really don’t think there’s anything underhanded going on. He gets to decorate his premises and you get exposure with the possible chance of even selling an image.

Pascal….It might help a little if you gave some indication of the framing costs involved by the way. The more transparency there is is these situations, the better. I presume you want the images posted on this thread?

it is indeed standard practice for the artist/photographer to have work prepared for hanging, however if specific framing is required then exact details should be provided as to sizes (width/depth of frame), mount colour and width etc.

The “same frame” from 2 different framers can look entirely different when put side by side, or is the idea to receive all prints and then have the lot done in the same place?

sorry for the questions, but it makes a big difference (to me) when thinking of entering for shows….

What’s the problem? I live in Sligo but if I had any images of Galway I’d definitely be interested, depending on the framing costs – you would pay to have your photographs displayed in an exhibition, so why not here?

Don’t knock the man for making a suggestion, if anything we need more of this sort of thing to showcase our beautiful country :)

    Thanks for the support guys.

As to framing costs etc… I haven’t looked into it yet. I wanted to see if there was any interest in the idea first.
I am thinking something like photobox.ie. I has some nice “timeless frames” (http://www.photobox.ie/shop/wall-decor/timeless-framed-prints” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;)
A good size would be the 40x30cm (That’s the size of the print, not the frame). This is €67. May still sound a bit too pricey?
If anyone has any suggestion please let me know. I was thinking photobox was a good option, as it is accessible to everyone, and each frame would be identical.
Please bare in mind that at all times the print and frame remain the property of the photographer who has provided it, and at any time can be taken back.
The other option would be for me to get all images, and get them printed and framed myself, but somehow have to get payment from everyone would get complicated.
But anyway, for now, let’s get the ball rolling and get some pictures up on this thread. I will look more into the logistics of it all.

Pascal – I misread your original post and thought you only wanted photographs of the city. Here are two photographs from Connemara which I took a few months back… Needless to say I’m interested, depending on costs etc. I have no experience with this so I’ll wait to see if anyone has any suggestions as to how it should be done. Here are my contributions anyway:

I have no photos from Galway but I remember when I was down at the round the world yacht race one of the galway guys collected a framed print that he got done out in the chemist in salthill and at the time I thought the price and quality of the print and frame was great,it could be worth checking out

I think its a great Idea. Do they have to be landscape and do they have to be of Galway. I would expect that a cosmopolitan coffee house in the city could also befit abstract expression or emotive shots????.

In all fairness, you’re going to the expense of framing an image to the liking of the recipient &
to hang it in their establishment to shall we say, improve the decor for the want of a different word or phrase
& with the possibility of a sale? Are ye all serious??? Do ye really think this guy is trying to do ye all a favour?
Get together & put on a display of ye’re work in a local gallery & ye might have a better luck in selling.
Out of curiosity what happens if an image get stolen or damaged from the Coffee Shop?

If you don’t like the framing you don’t have to go through with it, nobody is holding a gun to your head! It’s about increasing your chances of a sale and getting some exposure, because not everybody goes to galleries, however many people from all walks of life will pass through a cafe at some point. It’s not a conspiracy!
