Near and far

This is looking back towards the Silver Strand near Louisburgh, Co Mayo. On the other side of the far mountain lies Killary Harbour and County Galway.

I took it with the shallowish depth of field as I wanted the attention on the near small world, but still give a glimpse of the far larger world within which it is cradled.

    Hope you approve.

I think you did all that well Des, good exposure too for what looks like a fairly high sun.

its a nice pic – executed as you wanted it!

but this is my slant on it.

A.] i cant help but be distracted by the out of focus distant mountain
B.] the position of the clouds leaving the blue strip above is also distracting
and throwing the scene out of balance in some way.
C.] there is too much foreground showing with little interest there.

What I would do is crop the scene to a 2:1 format!
reducing the foreground and lessening the blue sky area . . .

Thanks Mike & Alan for taking the time to comment & edit!

MIke, yes it was one of those take it now or never moments – we passed it after a long hike and wouldnt have the chance to return this year. The sun (bless it) as you spotted was riding high at the time.

Alan, thanks for the edit, it is indeed an improvement. Its a nice wallpaper, but thats about it….. maybe a marker on the map for next year when I may be passing that way again.

Beautiful and remote part of the world.

    Des,
is that the back of Mweelrea mountain?
When you’re out hiking and more than likely in a group, you don’t have the luxury of taking your time to do set-up, and you probably have a lighter camera. Then you pass a scene like this and you take a shot on the run so to speak, the trick is remembering the spot so you can return!
No doubt you had a gps with you…
We hiked up here a few years ago, great spot and was back in Maumtrasna a few weeks ago.
