The two towers

Right, don’t usually do this type of pictures and am just looking for some advice as to where to go from here. Had no tripod but the bridge wall seemed sturdy enough (slight blurriness nevertheless). As the current situation has brought me to Stockholm, Sweden, the picture is taken not far from the city centre. I think these are just office buildings but not sure, I liked the lights on them this time.

Anyway, would appreciate any comments as this is a working progress for me :)

I have been shooting buildings recently and found it to be one of the hardest
genres to get results that I am happy with, you would imagine with the nature of
the subject (ie not moving) it would be simple!

I like the symmetry of your shot, though perhaps needs a little bit of a straighten?
I dont see much else other than the two towers are they are quite overpowering in
the frame, maybe a longer shutter speed to get a few light trails or “ghosting” of
the pedestrians would pull the eye down into the whole picture.

    Just opinions of course, :)

Yeah, I was looking at it, thinking whether it needs to be straightened but then decided it doesn’t..now I’m undecided again. I did a few longer shots but the cars moved Very slowly so they ended up being just random stripes on the road. The whole place is full of old buildings so was trying to kind of get that with the towers, too (as they aren’t modern and made out of glass etc).

Thanks for the opinion! :) At least I’m not on a completely wrong road here if you didn’t tell me to bin the picture :D

I liked the lights in the photo. I’d be curious to see what it looks like in black and white. Nice shot ;)

    nice –

with a little post processing this could be really nice.

the perspective needs to be corrected a little as you may have been shooting slightly “up into the scene”
so the buildings lean in to the centre slightly – not a major issue imo.

the scene is slightly under developed imo also, i think the street scene part of the image could do with
    some lightening.

I could take a stab at it myself but you have your “edit” option on NO!

anyway i think this has good potential.

i disagree – there is so much more detail to be seen by brightening the scene
while still keeping the mood in the streets!

Not really into this but it is a nice shot well exposed and executed….however I can’t help thinking that one of those towers is a ‘hologram’ :D :D :D :D …just kidding Vee

Not really a fan of B&W and this time think it’s all about the lights also, so wouldn’t like to lose them.

Hmm, as soon as I figure out where to change that “edit” thing, I will :) I will also try give it a go at brightening but not so great at processing.

As I said above, whenever I tried longer shutter speeds, the lights (especially cars) ended up being just streaks and not adding to the picture. Maybe if I go back at like 3am when there’s no traffic  First have to wait for the rain to stop!

Pat, now that you mention it, one of them does seem a bit hazy

Thanks for the comments, will take it all on board :)

Looks like I am a B&W weirdo then  I did a few different B&W conversions and really liked the feel of it. Regardless of picture color, I think it’s a nice photo of cool urban architecture. Well done Sndipo.

One of the things I keep hearing about night shots is that the should be shot when the sky isn’t completely dark so that you can still see the rooftops. However, I think the sky here is a bit too bright and I’d love to see this shot with a black sky. There seems to be enough light coming from the street to light up all the buildings and the towers themselves are floodlit so you’re going to see them.

    Nice shot all the same.

Thanks. I didn’t get a chance to go re-shoot,the weather was awful for days. Back in Ireland now for a while but going back out again soon..oh the travelling. Hopefully will get another chance. Thanks for the feedback, makes me want to go try it again much more! :)

Here are some alternatives but I think I still didn’t get it. Handheld and it was a way busier night. Might need some more straightening but it is very late and not so great at it anyway. Any better at all?

This is just to show what the street looks like in a wider view.

The first one looks a bit better to me. There’s some nice movement of people and cars. Except for those poor sods queueing up outside what looks like a nightclub on the left. Suppose you’d have to have a half hour exposure before you’d get any movement there.

The last one loses the towers and the bridge is dark and easy to miss but there’s still some nice movement of pedestrians on the right. Those moving on the left still haven’t moved I see. If the buildings and bridge could be brightened (if you have it raw this shouldn’t be a problem) and then combined with the street as is here, then it would be much better.

I didn’t see this til the 13th July – I think the shot with the complete traffic trails is the best of the lot, though I’m half expecting someone to say that the headlights are burnt out! Good capture!

Thanks. I have a pretty good idea now on this type of shots, just have to keep practising to execute it well..might take some time!

Yeah, it was a weekend and the place was that much busier even though I think it was around the same time. I was thinking that it is great to see the comparison between the two sides of the street. The last shot is meant just to show the street itself, wasn’t going for the towers in that one. Also that Stockholm is meant to have some pretty exquisite night clubs

    I think you’re right! :)

Thank you, feedback very much appreciated!!
