New Canon 5D Mark11 or second hand..dilemma?

  I’m ready to upgrade my Canon 5D after shooting a wedding last week when the mirror detached 10 mins before the bride arrived! Thankfully it’s a known fault and under warranty so it’s gone off for repair now. I want to get a Mark 11 and use the original as the back up. I have been searching around and have few options;

  Conns- €2000
  ISS- €2000
  Simply Electronics €1700
  Warehouse Express €2029

  Ive also found a second hand 5D11 with a battery grip and around 28,000 (updated) actuations for €1550. It’s a good price, comes with a 12 months warranty from a well known store and is in good condition. The battery grip is around €200 new so it’s tempting. I just have concerns that the actuations are quite high – even though in researching the typical life it can be anything up to 400,000+ so there’s a long way to go.

  Any feedback -particularly with SLR hut? Looking at online reviews, there’s a hint of dodgy about it. Ive used SI before and it was fine with paypal but I’m a bit nervous as its a large spend this time.

  Decisions decisions….what would you do??

  call dixons travel at Dublin Airport both T1 and T2 ask for prices then can different on both terminals and if you intersted i can help you to get it as im working at Dublin Airport.

  Hi Piotr,
  I just checked with both Terminals and it is €1825.70 in each store. Let me know if you can do anything there :D

  As far as I know the shutters are rated for 100,000+ actuations, so the second hand one should have plenty of life left in it

  So call them again reserve your camera for date you travel and you can collect by yourself without any extra costs.

  If you’re still looking; I’d just get another MK I. These bodies retail used for ± €750 now. That’s a decent price for a FX body and many famous photographers (e.g. David Burnett…) still use them.

  Thanks – I opted for the Mark 11 from Dixons in Terminal 2. Just picked it up late last night so haven’t had a chance to play with it yet, Thanks for all input on this one :D
