cd07Participant
Hey guys Iv been using a 400d for the last few years as a beginners type introduction to Dslrs. But now that I feel a bit more confident with it im thinking of upgrading. Id love to buy the 7d but I just dont have the funds so I reckon Ill go for the 60d instead. Can anyone shed any light on their own 60d experience good/bad? Thanks for reading

Blut00ParticipantHi Ciaran, I have a 60D since November 2011.
I agree the 7D is a monster with X2 DIGIC 4 processors, higher burst rate and 100% viewfinder.(96% OVF on 60D – fantastic for me)In my opinion there is no difference in the picture quality between the 60D and 7D. The 60D with its X1 DIGIC 4 processor is still good for nearly 6fps and can buffer 14RAW or 48 JPEGs…………that’s more than enough for me, if you think you need the higher performance of the 7D make sure you have some very expensive glass with Ultra Sonic AF motors.
60D grip is chunky and feels great, very solid body – no creaks or groans. Ergonomics are fantastic, I can access all the top buttons with my ‘shutter’ finger and just about everything on the back with my thumb. The back-lit LCD display on the top is great with the direct control buttons. The battery on the 60D is better (I think)………I’ve done 1600 on a single charge.
But the winner for me and the main reason I went for the 60D is the articulated screen, apparently it’s very useful for shooting video, which I have never done but I find it great for nailing awkward macro shots amongst other things and then flips in on itself as the ultimate screen protector.
Instead of a 7D and 2 lenses, I went for the 60D and 3 Lenses…………..so it was a genuine choice of one over the other………………for my wants and needs of course.
So it’s down to you, 7D costs about 40% more and I think you need some expensive lenses to get some of the benefits of the extra cost, plus a very specific requirement for that extra performance.Happy hunting – it’s a win win decision.
cd07ParticipantThanks a mil for the replies guys. I think Ill be getting the 60d after all. And as you say pual I would need to spend serious money on glass to justify the extra cost of the 7d which at this point in time I just dont have! I do like the articulated screen on the 60d too but that also raises the option of the cheaper again 600d! People have said to me that there isnt a huge difference between the 60d and the 600d, but after handling both the 60d seems much more solid so im going to stick with that. Just have to bend the herselfs arm a bit more I reckon!!
Thanks again
