I purchased a Leica lens recently. It’s a lens from the 70’s. I removed the hood and uv filter a few days after I purchased it and spotted some fungus. I did not think that the lens had a uv filter on it at the time. I want to get it sorted and at the same time CLA’d to bring it back to former glory. It’s a Leitz 40mm Summicron.
I am thinking about sending it to Leica HQ in Germany to get it serviced. Has anyone had previous experience with dealing with them getting their lens or camera fixed? Are the repair costs they charge a good price to pay compared to other alternatives?
Their service is of course absolutely superb, alas, Leica’s repairs aren’t cheap (neither are Summicrons though in the first place).
There are some good shops e.g. in the UK: I think this thread over at APUG sums it up ok: http://www.apug.org/forums/forum65/51571-leica-repairs-london.html” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
