Took this picture in a dilapidated part of a small town near me! Any comments appreciated.

C’mon Jem, give us a clue where this is! You’ve entered no info on yer profile!
My first impression was that a slightly less slow shutter speed would have given a little more definition to the passerby. Then I thought “No” then I thought “Yes” then I had another glass and decided that a fractionally faster shutter speed would give a smidgin more definition, which would IMHO improve the capture?
    Looking forward to others views.

Hi there Alex! Fair enough. :D The town is Swinford, Mayo – a sort of backstreet branching off from the main street.

It was a spur of the moment pic. To be honest, the red ‘visitor’ on the scene was not in the original picture! I used a previous pic I had of a girl in a red coat and put her in to make the scene just a tad more interesting. I know what you mean about more definition but I thought that blurring her would add to the spookiness!!

The building itself it interesting in its own right (wouldn’t be a street photo on its own mind imho).
I think that you’d be better off waiting for someone to pass by it instead of copying a person over it.

For me street and documentary aren’t something you make some multiple photos.

Just my thoughts on it :)

mm, the start of an interesting discussion… journalists and news publishers are not afraid to add or take away…. what is documentary? my research suggests its a style rather than anything else.

I’m always quite hesitant of making composite images but thats down to my own ethics and personal ideas about what photography is

Understand the thoughts on street photography – thanks for your opinions! I do all sorts of styles and genres. I am certainly not a Photoshop whiz in any sense of the word so usually all I do is tweak up my pictures a little bit – don’t like going too overboard. :D

Just thought that this particular picture needed something else….! (Next time I’ll be more careful! :D )
