3 different shots of the same part of bundoran beach…unfortunately the sun is blown out but would love your thoughts all the same.

looks like you tried to cover up the blown out sun by coloring it in darker! don’t do that! just because the ‘rules’ say nothing must be blown out doesn’t mean you can’t get away with it every now and then. look back through the posts of some others and you will find that it is not mentioned every time it occurs.

the colors otherwise are lovely. i think the composition in 3 is better than 2 as the sun is not central in the frame

    I think 1 & 3 are terrific!
    i wouldn’t agree Isabella & her comments.
    Well done.

Great set Dallan! Please address what was said before about the over exposed sun in shot no.2. In fact, minus the darkened sun, the composition is the nicest.

to elaborate I like the rocks and cloud color better in number 2 but the position of the sun in 3.

thanks for the feedback folks. isabella your a life saver , only that you pointed out the sun issue i wouldnt have noticed ! i tried burning the sun in pp to bring it down , but deleted it (or so i thought) because it didnt work…obviously i didnt delete it properly! when looking straight at my screen it doesnt show up , its only if i go low and almost look up at the screen i can see the dark brush stroke . as an aside , looking from that angle also makes everything look much darker ….so now im beginning to think , that what i see in my shots when processing and what everyone else is seeing when i post maybe 2 completely different things :-(
    thanks again everyone

jodal, yes indeed I’ve been realizing more and more that internet locations like this where everyone is using a different monitor means that people are seeing radically different versions of the same image.

if you have not calibrated your monitor the images you are looking at are very likely much brighter than what i see. I would imagine also that when (if) you get stuff printed at a lab it comes out quite a bit darker than it looks on screen, somehow more dull. Laptops tend to be very contrasty as do monitors aimed at office and home use, macs tend to be natively much closer to how it comes out on paper.

this can be frustrating as so much of photography is about subtleties of exposure etc… if you use photoshop change the proof setup (in the view menu) to Adobe ProPhoto RGB when processing (proof conditions – device to simulate). this will show you a more realistic idea of what it looks like.

The first shot is brilliant. There seems to be some texture in the clouds which I assume is noise?

    Dallan,

I like 1 and 3 too. Particularly the motion in the water in shot 3.

First ones best for me, really nice colours and no dodgy burning

3 great shots but for me the 3rd one is an absolute stunner. Beautiful tones and I’d love to see it without the burning. Within reason, I feel a certain amount of blown area is acceptable in this kind of shot surely. Well done on not blurring the water too much as well as it adds a nice bit of texture to it.

Dallan, 1&3 for me. You’ve found a great location there with plenty of foreground interest and potential leading lines.

tried to get rid of the dodgy burn strokes , hope it has worked ..having issues with my screen at the mo . im practically on the ground looking up at it to see what everyone else is seeing :-(
