All shots: Nikon 105mm micro VR mounted on macro extension tubes, on a D90. Manual mode/focus and exp. Off cam flash used with DIY cardboard softbox :D As I normally do, I was mixing it up out in the field. The first image was with just a 12mm tube attached, where the 2nd was with 68mm of tubing attached. Depends on the subject, and how close in they’ll let me get before legging it.

Number one has great composition in it the way the leaf divides the photo nearly in half. Number 2 has great sharpness in the eyes and nearly draws you in.Number 3 is just waiting to pounce
Well done on all
miki gParticipantCageyParticipantThanks :) I think I’m improving by the year on the macro side. Still a lot to learn, but ever willing. Here’s a few more recent ones, same lens on the D90: No flash this time, all natural lighting.

Im slowly getting into macro myself (extension tubes and reverse rings) and I love seeing other peoples gear, helps me get something to aim for :)
Personally I love number 2 of the first set of images. 1 has a great composition to it, with the leaf. 3 creeps me out :)sndipoMemberOnly seeing these now, oddly. Very good macros. I like the spiders and the bee shots. Is it just me or would the second shot in the first set look a bit more..intimidating if rotated so that the spider is horizontally? Like it nevertheless and well caught with the bee cleaning itself :)
Blut00ParticipantSuper macro’s, love the spider shot.
I’d like to know more about the soft-box you’re using.
