I would appreciate your comments on which one you prefer. I have been experimenting with filters from color fx pro. The first one does not have any filter applied. The second one does. Lambay Island taken from Malahide beach late one evening.

I have been using this filter to give images a kind of aged look so I am curious as to what people feel :)

the second one to me looks like a sunset on a hot hazy summers day. reminds me of california. it is also more like the tone of old color prints.

i really like the the shades of blue in the first shot and the reflections in the puddles in the rock.

as for which i prefer i like elements of each so i don’t know.

if your asking whether this would be the case for all images i think each image should be judged on an image per image basis – some scenes will look better than others with these effects applied.

The Nik filters are great, but they can also ruin a landscape. The Polariser and the ‘Pro Contrast’ (with the contrast turned down to the minimum) are both very worthwhile.

    Mark,

They are both nice shots, but side-by-side I’d have to say the first one too.

First one for me as well I think. In this instance I feel your filter just makes it look like the white balance is off rather than giving it an aged effect. Lovely shot by the way if the island wasn’t so central. And is the horizon slightly off or is there barrelling from a wide angle lens?
