As everyone in photography knows filter system is very dear,im daunted to make an expensive mistake, ive been doing alot of reseach of which one to grab for a nikon 10- 24mm lens for landscape photography (WHICH IM STILL SAVING FOR, LOLZ). Any suggestion of which filter holder that will not make vignetting on 10mm?
Im leaning towards the high tech system, any experience here?
I actually have a copy of cokin P series which is vignetting at 18mm (on 18mm- 200mm lens), I read that if you hacksaw after the first holder slot, it will resolved, but still when using a 10 stop filter the circular slot will leak light.
Any input will be greatly appreciated, thank you
bigalguitarpickerParticipantPUT THE HACKSAW DOWN !! STEP AWAY FROM THE HACKSAW !! OK ! Let’s talk about this situation?
I have a Cokin P series filter holder and a few Graduated filters. I also have the Cokin Circular Polarising filter. I had given up using this system in favour of using HDR technique, just using a screw-in Circular Polariser when needed. Then I bought a HiTech 10 stopper. Wanting to be able to use this filter on my Sigma 10-20, I bought a filter mounting ring for my Cokin P series kit to suit the 77mm thread on the Sigma lens. ( I also have a screw-in CP at 77mm. Cost £5 on Ebay and works just fine). Now I have started using my grads again, and I have found that with the filter holder mounted on my Sigma 10-20 with the 10 stopper in place, I do get a little vignetting at 10mm. If I zoom out to about 12mm, the vignetting disappears. I haven’t yet tried using the 10 stopper along with grads, that’s next! The bit of vignetting I’ve seen so far isn’t a problem as it more or less vanishes when I crop my images. My FujiFinepix S3 Pro captures at 4:3 and I print at A sizes, so there’s always a bit of image cropping anyway.
Like I said at the start, PUT DOWN THE HACKSAW! Just zoom out a little, or crop a little and you’ll be fine!
HTH, Alex.ovheypogiParticipantTwinFlashMemberI had once on my sigma lens 10 – 20 Holder for Cokin P type filters for wide angle lenses witch take only one filter , but had vinniet on 10 – 11mm
if you interested you can buy it through my store http://www.twinflash.com but also you can try it first on your lens , im based in Swords and if you would like to have a look on that holder just send me PM.
Thanks
PeterPatParticipantPersonally I use Lee holders and filters. Have used Cokin P, found them ok but maybe a bit flimsy. The Lee gear has much more substance to it and I feel more comfortable using them. Not the cheapest out there but they should last you a lifetime if taken care of.

I’ll second that, “Buy cheap, buy twice” as they say.
The Lee filter holder snaps into place reassuringly and the little doofer that allows you to release all the filters from the adapter ring is great when you are using the like of a 10 stopper to focus or compose and then re-attach in a click. You can actually do it single handed.
CelticpicsParticipantHi ,
Being French , i have tried to use cokin filters and holders as much as possible,
i used a P size when i had a cropped sensor camera , then a Z pro (100mm wide) on my 5d mkii.
A while ago i bought the big stopper filter from Lee and started experimenting with it to find that it doesn’t really work with the cokin holder ( wich leaves light enter through the corners of the filter.).
I since bought a Lee filter holder and would recomend it to anyone asking me . i would also recomend Lee filters, also i heard hitech are good as well.
