Insurance For Camera Club

As a club now in operation a couple of years , it’s something we should now need to consider as we begin to have more and more field trips is insurance cover. Public Liability would be our biggest concern but is their insurance that could cover equipment too, what does it cost for you and who would provide good cover at a competitive rate. Can any of you involved in camera clubs out there be of any assistance to us and point us in the right direction. Would appreciate any help.

    Thanks
    Damian

I am not sure if club insurance would cover camera gear. It would be up to the individual members (gear owners) to have their own gear insured. You need to have an insurable interest in an item to insure it, so the club can’t insure someone else’s property.

    But, definitely get PL insurance.

Try contacting camerainsurance.ie and get a quote from them. No harm giving them a call directly. Derek, one of the directors there, posts on here from time to time.

Hi Damian your members are responsible for insuring their own equipment. many household policies cover some camera equipment, on this one all I can suggest is that you can point members who are interested in aquiring insurance in the right direction. Members change or add to kit and it would be an administrative nightmare for the unfortunate committee member who ever got stuck with that task.
As to public liability if your club is a member of the Irish Photographic Federation you sould check what insurance benefits if any are confered by membership.
Lasty if members of your club attend outings organised by the club they do so at their own risk.

Are you sure about that? As far as I am aware, that is not the case. If the club organises an event, then the club has a legal responsibility.
