Is a great source of portable light with small money.
flashes will work with full ETTL-2 metering (Assuming the lens sends distance info) on ETTL-2 bodies. (20D, 1DII, 1DsII, 1DIIN, 30D, 5D, 350D and all the newer Canon cameras)
The 550EX does both master and slave, same as the 580EX
You can also use it as a master to trigger wirelessly other Canon Speedlites and the range is way better than the expensive ST-E2 as the flash head will reach further. Also it is an extra source of light that can be bounce in the ceiling while transmitting to another Speedlite or it can be disabling all together. It will still flash to transmit the wireless encrypted signal, but won’t be seen in the photograph. Also it can control 3 different groups of Speedlites with ratios A,B,C. The ST-E2 only have A and B.
It is also great on camera and being compatible with all Canon SLR cameras you will get the perfect exposure all time even if you bounce it in the ceiling or a bright wall.
