A photo from the wee house of Malin in Malin Head, Inishowen, Co. Donegal at about 2am wednesday (i think) last week:) 8 minute exposure, iso640, 24mm, f4.0, no HDR, canon 5d mk ii. Asked to attach a few logos and of course i didn’t mind (nice of them to ask!). It was so dark I did not expect to pull his one out…
Really nice shot, i would love to be able to do something similar.
any tech advice ?
how do you estimate exposure time? are you facing north ?
any heavy post processing to get rid of noise?
do you have noise cancellation on in camera or off ?
thanks .
philippe.
Hey Philippe, thanks for the compliment. Up close, it’s an incredibly noisy image. I used typical Camera Raw noise reduction like increasing luminance. I was just surprised how sharp everything was. I used the Hyperfocal setting from DOF Calculator on android. I was facing fairly north: http://goo.gl/maps/52cTx” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; It was a give it a go kind of estimate of the exposure time as it was so dark. I’ve been dying to get out again and try these setting again but the weather has been against us. No use of noise cancellation, what’s the point if we have raw where we can do it all anyway imho. I hope this helps. Alot of luck… but… luck that can be replicated I think… when we get the right weather! :)
