just curious,
does anyone revisit their negs and think, I can make a better/different print from that?
Recently I have been looking through old ngatives and there were a few that I thought I could make ‘different’ prints from.
Maybe more contrast, less contrast, different dodging/burning, different crop . I tended to make quite dark prints when i started off but tones are what i’m after now.
Might be a different thread but, do you revisit your old digital files and think the samethefizzParticipantGenerally I don’t reprint old negs unless I have to. I have that many unprinted negs to work on that I never feel a need to reprint old ones.
MartinParticipantI dont generally reprint negs that I have already printed. I do sometimes though if I really like a picture and think I can do better or if I have printed it in B&W and want to maybe give it a go in lith developer or something…
EddieParticipantI don’t revisit negs unless it’s something I have forgottom to print. I like to move forward and print new work as much as possible. There are a lot of older negs I could print betterwith experience gained so maybe some day I will get back to them. It’s only recently I have settled on a paper developer combination so that’s another good reason to look back on older negs.
IsabellaParticipanti don’t really either… maybe some day if theres a reason to. once or twice I’ve gone back to a particular image because its relevant to a project but i wouldn’t just haphazardly go back…
as for digital I’m afraid they just live on an external HD and never see the light of day. might be interesting one day to just see whats there but prob won’t happen till i retire
SeoirseMemberThere’s no harm revisiting negs.
If you want to re-print them, then re-print them. That’s the beauty of working with negatives.
I soemtimes re-visit if I need to simply re-print something for someone, although I do prefer to work on newer material as I find going over old ground can be somehow a little less interesting.
