    Howdy,

I wuz hoping someone here might be able to recommend a lens to me. Ok, what I’d like is one lens I can attach to my Canon EOS 50D camera. It needs to have IS an my hands shake. It need to be above, well, 10mm to whatever. A good all round lens that I can have attached all the time. I want to be able to carry the camera everywhere, even in the supermarket. Lightweight, versatile, practical and not to expensive.

    To recap then
1.a lens for all seasons and occasions
    2. A compact lens
    3. Must have IS
    4. Must be wideangle to zoom(10 to 200 would be great.
    5. Has to be light weight
    6. Not to expensive

    I’m not looking for much…

I have the Canon 18-200mm. Its a good lens but its bulky and heavy. I use it with battery grip on the camera for extra support as the body of my 400D is too short for the weight of the lens. I tend not to bring it when I’m travelling because of its size and weight. I’ve switched to using a 50mm prime now most of the time.

To piggy back on the link, there’s also a Tamron 18-270 which offers IS (or VC as they call it)

You have to remember though that these ultrazooms or whatever they’re called are generally considered to be of lesser quality than zooms with a narrower range.
You can’t pack all that focal choice into one barrel without compromising somewhere, particularly if you want to keep the price down !
