Using images on your website

Can I ask for some clarification on this issue as I see lots of photographers posting images on Facebook and on their websites. So do you need the client’s permission to post their image on your website and/or FB? Do you need them to sign a model release form?

Or as the image is your property anyway it is yours to do with as you wish?

The images are your property, but you should either ask for permission to use them or yes get a model release. Not everybody wants their images online, especially FB.

Model release forms mean absolutely nothing over here though, don’t they?

Agree with above. You might state in contract you have right to use them to promote your work. Some people just can not show their face. Have been working with Prosecutor or Gardai and they can not be shown for safty reason their families. You have to be carefully with using them.

A model release is simply a contract agreement between photographer and subject on how the images can be used. It means a lot.

Yes, you would need their permission to use their images; however, you don’t need someone else’s permission to use your own images – unless you actually agreed to this e.g. when you billed someone for the use of your images, then this may be part of the agreement.
