Broken Lens! Help Needed :(
-
JKPhotographyParticipant
Hey Lads,
Had abit of an accident with my 18-200 Nikon lens the other day.
Basically a trip and a fall and the lens came out the worst end of it.Nothing seems to be broke in the lens itself, no glass broke ect.
But 2 little bits and 2 screws came loose inside the lens and now it wont focus either manually or automatically. It is still making communication with the camera, and tries to focus, even the focus dial on the lens moves but nothing happens to the focus.
The only other issue is it will only fold back in half way.
I have attached some pictures of the peices that fell from inside the lens below.Nikon wont quote me a repair price until I send it to them for inspection and to be honest I don’t think I will be able to afford their quote anyway.
They also want me to send the lens in the post which I wouldn’t be too willing to do as I can’t find a courier company that will insure anything over a couple of hundred euro.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. This is as far as the lens will fold back in.
This is how it looked after the fall, but clips back closed easily, the peices where found rolling around in here.
These are the 2 little bits and 2 screws that came out of the lens.
NujmanParticipantHi JK Photography,
Well I have had a similar experience only a few weeks ago.
I use SLR Repair Centre in Meath which is the only repair for Nikon. The experience is very professional courtesy & probably a little pricey..
Now you have to courier your lens to them then before they repair they call you with repair price…
They are very efficient & repair is professional standard under the guidelines of Nikon UK.As far as I know when you engage a courier you are insured should any loss occur.
NOTE: your repair cost will be a lot less then going out to Conns/Birminghams & purchasing new or used lens…

JKPhotographyParticipantThanks for your reply.
Does anyone know roughly what it might cost to get it repaired with them?
Like are we talking 100 euro area or 300 euro?
If its the higher end I will have no option but to go at it myself, which I know isn’t a good idea :?NujmanParticipantJK Photography,
My bets are the higher number..
But if your a Pro and need things to work properly & not get caught out on a job its best you spend that money & have lens repaired & as good as new..
I had to spend €30 to send my lens with courier but now I know some couriers will take a package for €10.
One thing for sure you want your equipment to work perfectly & have back up if getting paid for a job…
because bad vibes spread very fast to other prospective clients….you don’t want that …JKPhotographyParticipantI fully agree and I do want it repaired properly, unfornuntaly im no pro photographer and not earning any morny from it. It’s all just my own hobby.
I wouldn’t have a problem paying for the repair if I were earning a living from it and could afford it.
But simply cant afford 300 euro plus to fix it.
I suppose my only option is to send it to them and get it quoted and hope for the best.
Thanks.
