Purchasing a compact camera in New York

I have a friend going to New York. I ‘m thinking of getting them to purchase me a compact. A few questions that someone of you out there might answer or have experience with.

    1. I’m down to 2 in selection the Nikon P7700 or the Canon G15, there doesn’t seem to be much between them, canon maybe better in low light. I’m a nikon user and familar with it’s dials but for a compact I don’t mind purchasing the canon. Anyone out there to make my mind up for me ??? or should I be looking at the Sony RX100 it seems to be getting great reviews but is a a good deal dearer.

    2. Are B & H online prices similar to their in store prices , anybody know ?

    3. They do Grey market products , would these cameras be much cheaper with them in Grey market and what would the availabilty of these particular two items with them be in the grey market.

    4. Is B & H the place to be going ? ( I know they are staying close to it and wouldn’t want them to be going too much out of there way)

I am sending in a person who wouldn’t know the questions to ask , just pick up the camera for me and I want the best deal going. I would appreciate any advice to give them from some of you who has been at this store .

    Many thanks

    Damian

Re: Prices, if you buy it in the B&H store, you’ll pay New York sales tax…I think 7% – somebody correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t buy in the store to save on the tax!
