A wonderful day on the Great Saltee island yesterday, for those that can remember the last visit almost three years ago!!! It was almost a carbon copy except we saw the dolphins on the way out instead of on the way back. More Puffins this time round also.
SeaviewParticipantThat’s a lovely shot Jenny, did it take you long to get them to pose for you in line. :D Yes I remember our last trip quite well with the Dolphin appearing on the trip back.
Dave.
miki gParticipantLovely shot Jenny & great to see these guys returning. Glad you had a nice day.
shutterbugParticipantThanks Dave and miki, yes Dave they responded quite well to
directions! :lol:NikonfanParticipantGreat stuff Jenny ….a Group of my friends were out yesterday also……Was there Wednesday but only saw four puffins….:(
shutterbugParticipantIt was very busy there yesterday, I believe boats were going out from 7am and the last collection
was at 9pm, I was lucky to get out there as I hadn’t booked. It was a beautiful day glad I picked
yesterday and not today. Only two Puffins appeared early but on the way back from the Gannet
colony I checked again and there was at least a dozen. Thanks for looking :DNikonfanParticipantYes my friends were one that last 9pm one…….You sure picked a great day…bit blustery today alright ….I hope to get back out myself soon too.
steelydanParticipantGreat to see the puffins back and the added attraction of the Trift flowers.
Heading over myself on Friday we have the boat booked for 11am . Can’t wait
shutterbugParticipantHope you get a good day for it John, I know you will have a ball anyway, but it is nice to
have a bit of sun on your backs too!brendancullenParticipantNice shot Jen – I went on Saturday – and you definitely saw more Puffins than i did.
There was some in-flight activity – but most of the birds were out on the sea – and their other halves were sitting on the eggs.
The season is most definitely 3-4 weeks behind – and some of the other Auks were still copulating.I’d guesstimate the best time to photo them would be late June up to the third week in July. Then they will be feeding and much more activity.
This is one i got on Saturday. Good light means a fast shutter speed is possible – but it’s too harsh. I prefer cloudy days to avoid the shadows.
shutterbugParticipantPadraigParticipantGreat stuff Jenny. Never tire of puffins. Nice shot of them in their environment.
shutterbugParticipantThanks Padraig, they are very appealing little birds, and such a treat to see them.
