External HD Recommendations

I use an iMac with 500 gig HD and I am looking to get an external HD (500 or 1 TB) to back up my photos to. As there are loads of choices out there for HD’s (and Lacie is a name I had never heard of until a friend from the camera club told me about them), I was wondering if someone could make some recommendations.

Hi Mark,
I have a NAS server with 2 2xTB Seagate (can’t recall the details on the drives…) in it with RAID between them.
The server is by Synology and doesn’t come with the drives. Its a bit of an investment but gives me peace of mind.
It also doubles up as a media server so I can stream to the TV but also with their Android/iPhone apps can stream files (music/photos)
to my devices securely across the web.What I’m missing is a pure external drive which I can take off site.
