Leica iii take up spool
-
jungleParticipant
I recently bought a Leica iii, 1937 judging from the serial number http://www.cameraquest.com/ltmnum.htm” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;. If anyone can tell me exactly what type it is or point me to where I can find that info, great! I’m a little confused with the difference between a iii and iiia

Inside is an odd take up spool, or at least odd from my perspective.

(picture not mine, I got it from http://jay.fedka.com/index_files/Page345.htm” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; but it didnt say how to unload
It hooks onto the spool.. so this obviously presents a problem when unloading. Is the intention for the hook to slice through the sprocket hole and release or should I remove both and unhook.
Also is this the correct spool for this camera?
(sorry couldnt enbed the images)Many Thanks.
AlwynMartinParticipantI cant answer your question im afraid but if you ask it again over on http://www.apug.org you should get an answer very quickly
MarkKeymasterAl,
It does say on that page that “Some resistance will be felt when the leader end of the film is reached. Continue winding until all the film is pulled back in the magazine.” So it should just come free with some extra effort put in… so perhaps it does cut the film in the process.
Regardless, I’d say just try a roll in it. If you run into a problem rewinding then take it into a darkroom, remove the film with the sprocket and cut it away with a scissors.
Your 1st roll of film in it could also be useful to help check that the camera works as expected across a range of shutter speeds.
