Shooting in rain

When going out in rain shooting how do you guys protect the camera and especially the lens. Even light rain can drop on the lens
SeaviewParticipantThat’s a fairly topical question considering the weather we’re having at the moment , I bought Op Tech Rainsleves off Barker Photography (Site Sponsor) and I used them during the recent storms to capture the waves smashing against our local coastline, lots of sea spray as well as the odd thunder shower. My camera and lens remain dry throughout except for front glass which I cleaned occasionally with a Lee Filters Lens & Filter Large Cleaning Cloth, also bought in Barker Photography. See links below.

I hope this helps.

OK thank you. Does it matter about the front glass of the lens, is a few drops there OK if cleaned of as you say.?
miki gParticipantIf you have a UV filter on your lens, it should protect the front element from the rain. If using a zoom lens, be careful that water can get between the outer & inner barrels & get to the electronic circuit board used to control AF etc. Unless you’re using a good rain cover, avoid shooting in heavy rain.
paulParticipantRain protection can vary from the cheap to the expensive.
Some gear is weather protected already (Canon L lenses and pro bodies).
You can use anything from a plastic bag to cover your gear up to full covers from Kata, Aquatech, Thinktank or others.
Sometimes I will shoot without rain covers (but I have pro gear that is weather sealed) and sometimes I will make sure I use the full gear. It’s a matter of judgement.
No matter what, before putting it away, give it a quick wipe to get rid of the heavy water.
FermoyboyParticipantI use an aquatech rain cover when shooting sports in the rain and it works a treat. Most valuable bit of gear I’ve bought to be honest.
