  Thanks Dave, I always find these very hard to photograph, even though they are
  very contrasty birds, they never look good. So I was quite pleased with this one,
  probably because it is not a front view of its face, they always look so grumpy!!

  I had thirteen in the garden today, emptied the niger feeder in about an hour! :D

  Fab image Jen – can’t beat a little flash to give a twinkle in the eye.

  Maybe try a very very light orange gel next time? (much lighter than this one)

  Thanks Brendan, what effect does the gel have? I am using a “Better Beamer” attachment
  For use with long lenses, but a gel could still be used with it.

  I have the better beamer too. The gel prevents ‘white light’ – making it easier to correct the white balance – especially if it morning or evening light. Worth a try as its very cheap.
