I done my first “proper” wedding as the main shooter in October… Its a long time coming but would love to get some C&C on some of the formal type shots I got from the day

    1 – The Bride

    2 – Bride & Groom

    3 – Bride & Groom

First of all well done on the getting the work & I think the more you do the more you’ll learn from it.

My own thoughts on the above images would be varied. I think in the first shot you are too far from the bride
with a little over half of the image taken up by a blown out sky. Too much DOF for my liking.

I think with the second image there is too much negative space on the right of the image & I wonder if this
would have been better if it had been taken in portrait mode rather than landscape?

As for the third image you’ve cropped a part of the bouquet & I feel the couple are too central with again
    too much DOF.

These are just my thoughts & I’m sure you’ll have more experienced photographers than I to give you their thoughts.

I’d agree with most of what John has to say, and for my own quick two cents, I think you need more tonal seperation in your b&w’s, as all the darker tones have melded into the same shade, making for quite hard, contrasty images.

The first image I find very unflattering to the bride, and the second image the groom has his eyes closed. Neither image I would like to see making the final cut if it was my wedding you were shooting.

The last image is my favourite of the three, and gives the look of captured a genuine moment, even if posed. The background is distracting though, as its too much in focus, and you either need isolate your subjects better, be it via wider apertures, longer focal lengths, or a bit of nuancing in photoshop.

Try not to shoot in the suns direction? To much lens flair for my taste.

What were the bride and groom’s reaction to the photos ?
