I have been contacted by a company who would like to use photograph of one of the OPW heritage sites exclusively for their product.
I don’t know why they are interested in this particular photograph.
I am wondering anyone has any experience in selling exclusively opw buildings for commercial purpose( this might appear on a label or over or something).
I am worried about the copyright usage of the public buildings. Any suggestions, ideas?
Contacted OPW, didn’t get a straight answer, asked to put that in a mail and send to them. Waiting for reply.
An update to the above post if anyone is interested…
I received few replies from OPW. All of them say the same thing.Permission to photograph National Monuments in State Care for commercial purposes requires advance permission, and a fee for such photography may be imposed. This permission is not given retrospectively.
So, photographing landmark monuments or buildings for commercial use is not possible without permission.
Would this still apply if the photograph was taken from a public area? I’d imagine that it would still apply, but I’ve certainly seen these type of images for sale & I doubt if all of the sellers sought permission or paid any fees.
