I intend to make some drying racks in the darkroom soon but am having difficulty finding exactly what to use.I’m thinking something with some rigidity that can be wiped down, preferably a plastic rather than metal. My online research keeps pointing me to americans who say use flyscreen material from walmart. I have a cheap flyscreen on my door at the moment but I can’t imagine the material in that suitable for drying wet fiber prints,i’t a cloth of some kind and I wouldn’t imagine too easy to wipe down. Other searches have found suggestions of fiberglass sheets, all I have found on fbay are plaster’es sheeting. I’ve used that stuff for fixing holes in walls, can it really be used for print drying?? Any suggestion for a product and where to get it.

Hi Tom, I got a mesh material from silverprint years ago and made drying racks but never used them much in the end due to having to keep them clean and dust free. I find it easiest to simply hang the prints on a line and let them dry over night.

This is an article on print drying using sheets of glass that I have adopted and find very useful when printing FB paper. When using RC sheets I’m just inclined to leave the prints to dry newspaper spread out on a table.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have been drying on several lines Peter, still run out of space though. Dust is my worst enemy too,my darkroom is in a shed which doesn’t help, that’s why I was thinking a plastic of some kind would be best, easy to wipe down with a damp cloth before using. Thanks for the link Tex,I’ll give it a read.

Tray from old dishwasher. These are dumped by white goods dealers. Cut down to suit.
