Visiting Ireland – Recommendations?

    Hi there,

I’m visiting Dublin for work in a few weeks from London (never been) and plan to stay an extra 2-3 nights.

I was planning on being around a specific area and exploring that, particularly with a view (sorry about pun) to take landscape photos.

Any specific recommendations (I plan to rent a car and don’t mind walking 2-3 hours)?

So far my only thoughts are being around County Clare to see the Cliffs of Moher.

    Cheers in advance!

Have you searched 500px for photographs of Ireland, to get ideas of places you might like? Bring gloves and scarf if your heading coastal, it’s getting colder here and our temperatures are colder than Londons most of the time, breezier too. I would point you in the direction of the Atlantic Way up to Donegal.

Dublin is on the East Coast, Clare is the south West. Around 3 – 4 hours drive.

    Around Dublin:
Howth – Fishing Village / Howth Castle / Shillmartin & Mushrock give good views of Dublin Bay / Bailey Lighthouse also – Can do at the Weekends
Dalkey / Killiney – Can do at Weekends.
Hell Fire Club / Enniskerry – Can do at Weekends.
Glendalough – Can do at weekends
Dublin Mountains – Can do at weekends.

    Co. Louth
Baltray Beach, Drogheda, Co Louth – Famous ship wreck there. – Can do the weekends.

    Co. Meath
River Boyne / Hill of Tara / Newgrange are a few musts – Can do at the weekends.

    4-5 hours Drive

    Further a field:

Northbound (Giants Causeway Co. Antrim) – would need a full day
Southbound Hook Head light house – Co, Wexford.
    Westbound – Cliffs of Moher

a few ideas for you to look into, don’t forget to post you pics back up here.

Drive to Dublin airport, take the early flight to Kerry airport in Killarney, 60 euro return. Take a hire car and drive to Killarney national park for some good shots or likewise forget the park and do either of the peninsulas Beara or Iveragh for some of the most beautiful scenery you will see. Stay in Kenmare which is nestled between both peninsulas and drive back to Kerry airport the following morning . If you time right with the weather it will be spectacular

If you are getting a car head north to Northern Ireland. Historic sites marked along the way . On reaching the north follow Mourne coastal route. This will take you through coastal fishing villages and eventually to the Mourne Mountains to Newcastle. From there to Downpatrick (cathedrals, St Patrick’s grave etc) Killyleagh ( castle) on to Comber and pass Stormont( parliament) into Belfast some good opportunities. Possibility use the hop on hop off bus to see sights such as troubles based wall murals. Use M1 to return to Dublin two and one half hours at most. Contact me if you need more.

    from Wee man’s phone.
