I travelled to Austria on holidays to see the crazy event, that is the Erzberg Rodeo. It’s a hard enduro motorcycle race held annually in an Iron Ore quarry called Erzberg. The main race of the 4 day event is the RedBull Hare Scramble which sees 500 riders attempt to race from the bottom of the quarry around a 20-30 km course including passing the summit of the mountain. Around 1500 people enter to qualify for the 500 places on race day, riders are released in groups of 50 to challenge the course. Of the 500 that start only 9 finished this year!!!

The start of the race. The main reason such a small number of riders finish the race is the first challenge, they must climb steep cliffs that surround the bottom of the quarry. Not only are the hills incredible steep, the amount of bikes attempting the climb at the same time leads to some interesting hill side traffic jams.
