Nikon announced a slightly upgraded version of the pro D2X camera to be called the D2Xs.
Its going to be available this July. The mains improvements are:
A 2.5″ LCD monitor
High-speed crop mode enhancements
Longer life battery
B+W mode
Adobe RGB in all color modes, up to 3 custom tone curves
1/3 step ISO boost
Improved Menu GUI
Enhanced GPS with more informationIt seems that they’re applying some of Nikon D200 features to the D2Xs.
Not that it’ll be cheap of course (?3,500stg).
I think I’ll be sticking with my D200 for quite some time to come yet :)
crazyhorseParticipantHi Mark,
As a rank novice with a d70s 18/70 lens and a tamron 70/300 telephoto for long shots, while on holiday recently I was recomended the nikon 17/55 2.8 which I could have bought for ?1200 in Gibralter. As I am not suffiecently technically minded to be in a position to evaluate the lens I shied away from the purchase ans came away just buying a few filters. Since returning from holiday I have been qouted ?1589 from Jessops in Dublin but could get it for ?1500. Have you any experience of this lens or alternatively what mid price lens would you recommned, the 18/70 is reasonable but no master piece. Also what long telephoto would you recommend, what price a good 70/500.Love your site keep up the good work,
Crazyhorse.
DaveCParticipantMarkKeymasterThe 18-70 is still a very good lens to be honest. I’ve not taken a look at the 17-55.
What are you planning on using the lens for ?With the long telephoto, will you be using it for nature/wildlife or sport etc ?
Mark
crazyhorseParticipantThe 17/55 is reputed to be very good in low light because of its speed but a guy in a camera shop in Killarney( forget his name ) rekons its not worth the expense. I took a lot of long shots ( Tamron 70/300 ) at the Longford Kerry game in Killarney and was surprised at how well they came out, I purchased it in Jessops recently on the strength of a budget lens comparison in Digital Photo back in March/April but I’m tempted to go now for extra distance with the 70/500. Wildlife nature and sport would be my scene in that order.
