Payment for photo

Was doing some browsing earlier on today and cam across a UK link regarding payment for photographs
which I might be off interest. Not sure if there are any Irish guidlines advice available ?http://www.londonfreelance.org/photo/digital.html
joe_waterfordParticipantInteresting read that. No idea for Ireland.
Have a friend who has submitted to a local paper, received no money
which didnt bother him bit didnt get any mention in the paper either.
no goodSteveFEMemberInteresting. I got lucky just the other day: New Scientist were running a story on Derrybrien windfarm in Co Galway. Their picture ed must either be in the habit using Flickr or gone to it out of desperation at not finding Derrybrien on stock (RF or RM) sites, but anyway he contacted me asking if they could use one of my Derrybrien pics. About as long as it took to connect the ISDN and email, he had the full-res version. I then heard nothing for a few days, then an email saying “We’re using the pic, it’s in the July 8th issue, does ?170 sound OK?”
That strange noise was me picking myself up off the floor ;)
More interestingly, it was taken with an ancient Canon D30 (six years old, 3.1 Mpx), and they ran a full centre spread from a CROP for God’s sake. There goes my argument for dropping ?3k or whatever on a 5D :-( That was my biggest payout from one pic to date, given that I can’t really print 20×30 artworks off 3Mpx, never mind marketing them to connoisseurs.
MarkKeymasterJeeeeez, well done Steve, thats a terrific call to get. :D
Not what to spend that ?170stg on hmmmmm :)

gerardkParticipantshrapnelMemberSteveFEMemberThanks! Got my complimentary 3 copies in the post today and I can regretfully say that the full-page crop off the 3Mpx image looked fine! So no 5D for me yet :-(
I spent the money (virtual money, it’s yet to arrive but I trust big mag publishers to be true to their word) on a secondhand Mirror dinghy so will no doubt have some waterborne sailing shots somewhere in the etherverse before too long. I spent most of today slapping some paint and varnish on it, whilst dodging the horseflies, and tomorrow should be launch day if the skin cancer weather continues.
GCPParticipantGood guidelines there as the world of digital imaging has changed pricing as we knew it.
Well done on the sale of the pic but you may have to bill them to get the cash as many of the
cash offices in publishing companies only pay out on receipt of an invoice. Even though the guy
agreed a price or suggested a price he may not do the necessary to ensure the payment is made.
So if it does not arrive in the next week or so…..get back on to him and send them some type of bill
stating what exactly the amount is for …..eg. Publication xyz, page xyz, date of publication and details
of the pic.AimeeParticipant
