Still getting the hang of my 50mm 1.8

Took this with my fairly new 50mm 1.8 lens.. love the dop you get with it, but its hard to get the point of focus in the right place sometimes.. think I got it on the hair, not the eyes..

Focus isn’t far off the eyes, so it’s not so bad at all in that sense. My personal taste isn’t for a complete sepia wash across an image, but I guess each to their own. But again, for portraits its always important to get some light into the eyes, or else they end up as black pits.

You mentioned somehwere or the other that you convert to bw and then do a hint of sepia in the shadows (if I am not mistaken).. how do you do that? Can I do that in Elements do you know?
This was taken just in the garden with no flash at all, so the eyes are a bit dull.

Yeah, I do tend to add a touch of sepia to my shots, just to take the grey look away. I use the “colour balance” tool in Photoshop – I’m not sure if it’s available in Elements. The good thing about it (again this is a personal choice) is that you can add the sepia to just the shadow detail rather than the whole shot. So the whites stay white (I’m sounding like an advert for DAZ :D ) but the dark parts get tinted.

Not much into the sepia look myself.
But the child looks great, very relaxed and happy with the attention :)
    Can’t ask for much more
