    Hi there

I am very new to digital SLRs, I have been using my Nikon F75 for the last while and want to move to digital.
Would you recommend the Nikon D50 for a beginner? Id love to get the D200 but its a little out of my price range.

    Appreciate your help!

Welcome to the forum Meegan, !
    Great to have you. :D

Very nice camera, shoots way above its price. All its really missing it a depth of field preview button.
Its takes a great quality photo, as good as the D70 easily.
A friend has one and is very happy with it.

If you can though, get the 18-70mm kit lens instead of the 18-55mm, the 18-70 is much better,
    you won’t regret it.

    Cheers Mark!

I will look at prices for the D70 and see if I can get that rather…would you recommend the 18-70mm lens for this too?

Yep, go for the 18-70, excellent lens, everyone loves it. You’ll not be unhappy with the D70s.
Great camera, always rates above its competitors in any reviews I’ve seen and I look
    at alot lol

    Meegan,

Coming from the F75 film body, I think you’d find the use of the D50 body perhaps a little restrictive. In terms of picture quality, both the D50 and D70 are virtually identical, but the body on the D70 have more features immediately to hand via dials and buttons (controls you’d be used to on the F75). The D70 was my first dSLR and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Agree with Ciaran, one of the command dials is missing in the D50.

If you’re used to a dual-command-dial camera, definitely go with the D70s. I’m perfectly happy with the D50, I’m getting some great shots out of it, but I’m coming from a digital P&S background, so ONE dial is plenty for me :)

You’ll have to show us the result when it arrives.

By the way, Amateur Photographer magazine (out every Wednesday) has a free
CD from Nikon about getting the best out of the D70. ?3.75 or so, might be useful for you.
