CD labeller

Anybody recommend a good cd labeller with decent cd template software?
Have asked in various PC stores but they seem very hard to come by.
gerardkParticipantI know some photo printers have the cd printing function built in, for example there is a cd tray for the canon 1p8500 (if you intend to get a photo printer it may be worth combing the 2 functions). This comes with cd label printing software (which seems to be fairly run of the mill).
There is always the option of a lightscribe drive too – (though nowhere near the photo printer quality).
DanParticipantI have exPressit 3.0 SX design software with the Pressit CD label kit! does the job nicely for what i need it for
goonerParticipantDidnt know you could print on CDs, great idea. Must look out for a printer for it
thommacParticipantI use the Fellowes NEATO kit. most dixons have it in stock now.
it comes with software, some label and an applicator to allign the label on the cd. they also d the labels seperatly so the refills are there
stcstcMemberDont Put labels on CDs, and even worse, Dont put them on DVDs
The main reason for this is, you will never get the label on the disc accuratley enough to not un-balance the disc during rotation.
Go to PC-world or some where like that and buy a Cheap epson r220 , it will print on cds it comes with software to do it too.
Your other option, if you just want B&W text, get a lightscribe burner. the downside to this is the blank discs are more expensive
earthairfireParticipantI use the canon ip5000 to print my CDs and DVDs and it’s fab – no labels, no hassle!
Only problem is if you get the disc wet (i.e. spill a drink on it), the ink will run…

According to the Epson Website their New Claria inks are even more water resistant so this should not be a problem here. http://www.whypaymore.epson.co.uk/epson_details_blue.aspx?n=3

Great news – thanks for letting me know!

stcstcMemberLightscribe is good for text, its not great for anything more
so for archive discs, ie with just disc names etc they are great.
Downside is the cost of the blank discs is around 3 times the price of inkjet printable discs
I use an epson R300 printer with cheap Jettec Inks (about 20% of the price of epson ones) and use Ritek full face inkjet printable blanks (they cost about 10p stg if you buy them on a spindle of 50). and if i am printing more than logos and text i use a fixative spray, this basically makes the ink very stable on the disc, although it is abit of a hasstle.
I have done short runs of 100 or so discs using this method and once you get the printer happy it can work very well and simple
The other thing is you can buy a very cheap continous ink system for the r300 for about ?30 stg and the cost of prints tumbles to next to nothing.
I then box all my discs for clients in DVD amarry style cases (about 10p stg each), this looks much better than a jewel case, and also allows for a great cover and even an insert (which is cool for things like contact sheets etc)

Apologies for taking this thread somewhat off-topic. I have an R200 (basically a scaled down R300) and have thought about using Jettec inks myself but to date have not done so for fear that they may clog the print head. It appears that I need have no fears in this regard then? How do they compare in terms of colour matching?
stcstcMemberI have been using them for a while
I particularly use them in the R300 because all i use it for is disc printing.
I have had the odd cartridge be flaky but hey they cost like ?3.50 each so if they fail through them in the bin and put a new one in
actually, i found a comparission test with them and epson inks for colour and even light fastness. and they came out very favourably
the continious ink flow system works with the R200 aswell and has 150ml ink bottles which is ment to make the print cost stupidly small
and again its like ?25 – ?30 stg
hope this helps

I can recommend this program to create covers and labels. It contains many templates takes little memory and is very easy to use. You can try it.
