Had a great time this weekend down by Glendalough and came back up by Blessington Lake where we saw loads of these Damselfly… the little buggers would land on a blade of grass and as soon as I got close enough, they kept flying off again. So I used my 80-200mm with one of the extension tubes, and managed to shoot this from a few feet away. It is cropped fairly heftily too. But it’s still better than I would have expected, usually anything with my tele zoom is affected by my seriously shaky hands…

These guys are very difficult to shoot without a flash gun. Looks sharp to me.

The brightish background in the middle might be a bit distracting, but thats a minor comment to be honest.

Its a hard shot to get, good stuff.

Mark is right, not an easy subject to take a photo off.
I think that it looks great, such good colours on the bug :)

Hi eleven…. That looks very good to me… I agree that flash would help… it would lighten up this side of the fly and probably saturate the colours but it can be tricky to get right… I have taken a few damselflies at a pond local to me… some with and without flash:

no flash on the image above…20d and sigma 105 macro
