Copper hill sensor cleaning method

Just used the swabs today along with cleaning solution ,nothing major encountered and the chunks are gone.
If you focus sharply on what you are doing ,you can actually see the solution dissapear as you stroke the swab accross the image sensor.
The sensor on my 350D has glass over it ,which is a bit more reassuring than thinking it was actually a sensor exposed.

Photographic solutions seem to be the biggest investor of this method.

Read the instructions carefully ,carefully enough to see that the swabs are guaranteed not to damage your camera ,if used as directed.
Thanks to the lads at boards.ie for the advice on the kit.

All DSLRs have glass over the sensor, as they all have anti-alias and UV filters over the sensor. The sensor isn’t half as delicate as everybody would have you believe. A puff with a bulb and a quick sweep with a soft and clean (non-greasy) brush will sort out sensor dirt without hassle 90% of the time. With deeply ingrained cack it may be wise to invest in a cleaning kit with non-depositing solvent, but honestly, I’ve cleaned my D30 sensor a few times now with nothing more sophisticated than a ?2 blower bulb/brush and some care, and I am not at all paranoid about lens changing routines (I often change in incredibly dusty environments like in the car or outside). I also clean my lenses with my (cotton) T-shirts, so you may wish to take my offerings with a pinch of salt ;) I’m just averse to dropping like half the price of a crap lens on some posh isopropanol and lint-free wipes.

Visible Dust cleaners are meant to be the best, but expensive.

just a quick note to say ,I’ve got a hama blower ,large black one with a red tip.
I noticed when using it on my filters it was emitting white sticky dots ,like the stuff you see on the inside of bicycle tubes
It took quite a bit of effort to remove it ,so check your stuff before you use it on your sensors.

Interesting. I’ve been using two of these for years and never had a problem with them. I think they’re the business – the sheer size of the bulb means you get a really good strong blast of air out of them. I have the sensorswabs kit – bought it 3 years ago but have never had to use it :!:
