Fuji and Nikkon

Does anyone know what the story is with Fuji and Nikkon ,do they use the same parts or does Fuji make their own Slr’s entirely themselves ???
whats the S3 pro like ,compared to Nikkon cameras ?
MarkKeymasterI’d have thought that each makes there own, but Fuji just have a compatible lens mount ?
Can’t imagine Nikon making Fuji cameras.masteroftherealmParticipantYup each make their own, just the lens mount is the same.
Fuji’s are the ultimate camera for skin tones after the old Canon D30.AliParticipantGood question and i’d be interested in finding out more info on this. I have a fashion/jewellery shoot on Saturday. I have my own D200 but i also have the option of using the S3. If i get the chance I’ll set the two cameras up under the same conditions and post a shot taken from each as an experiment.
ciaranParticipantAs already mentioned, both cameras share the same lens mount, but after that the similarities end there. In pretty much every head to head review I’ve read, the D2X completely outstrips the S3 in every aspect (I haven’t seen anything anywhere mentioning skin tones). The one place the S3 excels above ALL other camers is the dynamic range – it’s exceptional, which is why it’s very much favoured by wedding photographers.
masteroftherealmParticipantThe S3 has user selectable dynamic ranges. Thats why its favoured for skin tones and macro a lot.
You can either choos to have it sooth and nice for skin tones. Or saturated and lovely for macro.
All fuji DSLR’s have been famous for this.MarkKeymasterciaranParticipantMark wrote:
I would have thought and hope that the D200 beats the Fuji hands down :)
When the S3 was released it was initially compared to the D100 and the Nikon pretty much chewed it up, apart from once again on the dynamic range. So I’m sure the D200 is a step further again.
_brian_Participantthe s3 is just over a 1000 euro ,is it a full frame camera or just the small sensor ??
I really like the fact that a completely different camera can be used with a selection of lenses.
DaveCParticipantIt basically has 2 6MP small sensors that interpolate to give a 12MP image.
I looked into getting one myself but supposedly the write speed for raw images is very slow.
ciaranParticipantA really good review of the S3 (which I considered at the time before buying my D2X) can be found here:

The first page gives you good information on why the camera has the dynamic range it does.
Theres about 11 full pages of information, but a good summary of pro’s and con’s can be found at the end

For me, in the end, there were two many con’s about the camera in comparison to the pro’s. Plus just the feel/build of the camera didn’t feel right.
masteroftherealmParticipantBrian, someone on boards has the S3 I think. I saw it in the boards.ie photoset on flickr somewhere. Have a look.
