city in the clouds

i missed a great opportunity when i went for a walk on saturday on dublin bay, but unfortunately was with my son so couldn’t rush headlong into the clouds as i would’ve wanted to, to get some moody shots of the bay and pier. All i got was this
ciaranParticipantYup.. I like it. It’s a new take on an old theme. I’d be tempted to boost the contrast just a touch on each of the stacks, but all in all a good shot. I’m guessing this is a pretty hefty crop though?
shrapnelMemberthanks ciaran, no crop here actually, this is how i framed it. i haven’t checked the exif but must be between 150 and 200 mm :D
LoGillParticipantIts a very cool shot – I’d be chuffed with it … If you do play around with contrast ias suggested .. t might be interesting to see how it looks in BW … It looks great though :)

AliParticipantI’m not really fond of this Shrapnel, the more i look at it the more i feel that there’s something obstructing my view.
FajitasParticipantMore contrast, defo!!!
It’s a nice shot, I think, but it defo needs some boosts!
Perhaps, use a bit of colour balance, and get some more bluey tones in. A tad of desaturation…
I’m getting ahead of myself here :P
shrapnelMemberthanks all for your comments- i’ll definitely give the contrast boost a go and b&w.
Ali: the stacks here in dublin are such a familiar site, as in i see them every day, that when i got there and saw them like this i just went wow. It was a way i’d never seen them before and had to capture the moment. I understand that if they’re not so familiar then this might not have the same impact- so just for you  here’s the unobstructed view
AliParticipantciaranParticipantI’m sure everyone in Dublin must have a shot of the Pigeon House.. here’s my take on them
I was down the south bull last week with the camera club and I took some film shots of the stacks too… wonder how they’ll turn out :?

Cheers shrapnel. This was very much a case of right place at the right time. It had been bucketing down all day, but there was a very short break in the weather as I was passing by here so myself and the friends I was with at the time, decided to go for a stroll and try and get some shots. Two mins into the walk the clouds broke and the sun just beamed down on the stacks, so I was well chuffed :D It’s a pity it was so windy, it stopped me from getting a smooth reflection of them.
nolongerParticipantThis doesn’t really look like clouds – more like someone’s hand is in front of the lens. Unfortunate that you couldn’t get a bit more cloud detail in there.

Actually… now that you mention it :?
