Mounting board?

Does anyone know where they can get large sheets of mounting board (ideally black) which I can mount prints on (A4 & A3) for competition entries in my camera club? I’m a new member so haven’t a clue where people get these or even how they mount the shots when they do (pritt stick, celotape?).

    Thanks

I have the contact details for a guy in Blanchardstown that specialises in mounting boards and presentation.
He’s extremely cheap too and will cut to your requirements. He’s very well recommended. To be fair i’m not going to post his mobile number online
but if anyone wants the details send me a pm or email i’ll pass it on. For club competitions i’ll probably just hack up some mounting boards myself with
a bevel cutter. that should be interesting :D. I’ll send you on the details Ciaran.

You can also order them in the Picture Framing Shop on Abbey Street ( Beside Hector Greys, near the Pixels camera shop) … Not sure what they cost (yet) but i’ll update the thread when I find out –

I got some mounted in Mulvaney brothers in Kingswood just off the Nass road the first turn after Newlands Cross heading towards Naas.

    For a 12 X 16 photo mounted with a backing mount it was ?5

If you’re after the high quality stuff, try Scopas Mouldings in Kilkenny. They deliver. They have a comprehensive range of fine art/ acid free mount board. Its not the cheapest but if want the best………………

    Hi Ciaran

I have ordered 100’s of mounts, cut and blank, in a variety of colours and weights from here:

    http://www.framingfantastic.co.uk/

Its amazingly quick and the very cheap compared to the prices down here. I have only good things to say about this company…! I have made orders for the club I am in (Mid Louth Camera Club) of 100’s of mounts at a time and they always arrive early and perfectly packaged. The guy (Shane Noble) replies to emails etc immediately and is very honest and obliging.

    Super company

    Give them a try…

(PS I am by no means affiliated with this company… Its just quite rare that a company treats you so well… and when they do they should be known about…!)

Kennedy’s Harcourt St. They have a loyalty card and offer a 10% discount with this. i have found them cheapest for neutral density board. For acid free go to Sisslings Stillorgan beside luas. You may have to buy in bulk.

Should have mentioned in my reply to be careful with Black mounting board, it will work fine with colour, but for mono choose antique white, it works well on nearly all mono shots. For best effect print your image with a border and cut the mount so that some of the white border of the print is showing. This may be difficult to at the start but with experience you will master it.

If you have a good image that you are entering into competitions print a second copy and put it in a portfolio of some sort. The mounted competition entries are often used for exhibitions and inter club competitions and can get damaged. By having one in your portfolio you never have to revisit the image and you will always be moving forward with your photography.

Dont use prit stick or cellotape. Most people use masking tape, but this also damages prints over time. O Sullivans just off Camdem street sell a tape made by 3M called Magic tape that is recommended for not damaging prints. It is dear (8 euro) but you only use a small amount. Put tape right across the top of the print and a very small piece in the bottom two coners. Place a piece of board bigger than the print behind it and tape this with masking tape.
