    C&C Welcome as always.

And as a prenote I know I go the head of a girl in the second one in focus.
Alcohol and manual focus do not mix :)

It’s difficult to comment in detail when people post more than one shot, so I’ll keep the critique shot.

Alcohol fuelled or not, the first shot is soft and the eyes of the girl are completely dead, with no catchlights. Doesn’t make for a pleasing portrait.

The second shot is underexposed and severely lacks contrast. It’s a black and grey more than a black and white shot. It’s a nice enough photo, good and sharp. But I’d definitely do a levels adjustment on it.

The third shot breaks two of my rules… you used direct flash AND you cropped at the chin. But that said, its a terrific shot. very original… I like it. The best of the 3 by a mile.

I think the 2nd shot is the best – love the sharpness of that one though i would probably crop it differently and try a few adjustments to make it ‘pop’ a bit more – it does look a bit grey overall. Still a lovely picture imo. The third one is good too – I think the crop of that one suits the picture.

Agree with Ciaran, the eyes on the first one need some sort of keylight to open them up and become the focus of the shot. I reckon this could be the best of the three with a bit of faffing around in the darkroom or in potatoshop; everything’s there as far as composition and pose except the eyes, and that kills the shot.

The second is a nice photo, but looks better with some minor tweeks.

    The third is cool.
