Thinking of investing in this lens.
Anyone own one or ever used one?

It’s just out, but it got some great reviews.

In Dublin, going to Berminghams to give it a try.
Sigma equivalent is half the price but with no VR (very tempted).

Depends on what you want to do with this lens. If its real Macro work, I dont see the point, VR haz zero effect in anything less than a couple of meters away. If its for portraiture etc.. I would go for the 85mm 1.4, will give you much more creative scope.
The 60mm Micro is one of the best lens Nikon make, RAZOR sharp and way cheaper than the 105 VR.

I bought the older version (non-VR) some time ago.
So far I haven’t been overly excited with its performance despite the great name the lense has.

Perhaps I haven’t given it a good enough run out yet – will keep at it for the next while and see if the final result (or my photography!) improves.

Burt, took on board what you said and tried both 105mm and 60mm.
Ended up getting the 60mm, brilliant lens.

I have the 60mm also, super lens, very very sharp. I remember reading somewhere thats its the sharpest lens Nikon have ever produced.

Haven’t tried the Nik 105 vr, I have the sigma 105 2.8EX, it’s STUNNING! incredibly sharp, if a bit noisy (screw focussing).

Have to agree with Allinthemind, the Sigma 105 f2.8 is a very sharp lens indeed. As he says, it is a little loud while focusing, but it does have a hell of a long way to travel to get to the 1:1 end.

I got mine about a year ago for use with the D70 and now use it with the D200. works prefectly with either.

Sounds like an astonishing lens :)

There is also a test of the 200 F2 VR …
